“Officials predict longer and stronger fire season”

(source AP article)

What does this all mean?

People continue to be on the move to live in areas all around the country that may or may not be adequately covered by fire local fire protection.  We already see evidence that during certain fire emergencies; the Fire Department may not reach your home in time due to wildfires.  This can be due simply the fact that roadway to your home is either congested due to forced evacuation traffic or blocked by downed power lines and burning debris.

Fire Safety and Protection are on people’s minds as they see a longer window of vulnerability through the fire season.

State and local Governments are stretched to the maximum to cover the needs of the public who continue move out to less urban areas.  Fire Departments are preparing to cite home owners who do not have clearly fire  defensible areas around their homes. This goes beyond the simple “Red-Taping” a home where the Fire Department will not defend the home due to it being too dangerous a fire situation.

Home Owner Organizations have requirements for maintaining the grounds around their member homes.  Penalties can be assessed if you do not maintain those standards.  How do you meet your Home Owner Organizations and Keep the Fire Department happy which may want a “bare earth” policy around your home?

Insurance Companies are beginning to react to the staggering cost of fire damage and the rebuilding process.  Home owners will soon have to be more active in creating a home fire defense.

Construction Permits and approvals for new construction and rebuilds in fire ravaged areas  will have higher requirements in terms of fireproofing of homes.

While these organizations grapple for answers tomorrow; the public needs answers TODAY.
